B.A., J.D., LL.M (Specialization in Family Law)
Sanaz joined Devry Smith Frank LLP (‘DSF’) in 2021, as a senior family lawyer at the Whitby office.
Sanaz graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Hons. B.A.). She studied law at the University of Ottawa, where she obtained her Juris Doctor (J.D.) with a specialization in Dispute Resolution & Professionalism. She carried on to study international Family Law by attending Gonzaga University in Florence, Italy. During law school, Sanaz was active in the University of Ottawa’s student legal aid clinic, where she volunteered as a caseworker in the Family Law division.
Since being called to the Ontario bar in 2013, Sanaz has practiced exclusively in the area of family law. Prior to joining DSF, Sanaz worked for a boutique family law firm in the Halton Region where she dealt with a variety of family law issues including equalization of net family property, child and spousal support and age-appropriate residential arrangements for children and decision making responsibilities between separated parents. Sanaz uses mediation and alternative processes to reach agreements that are mutually beneficial and she sees her skills as a negotiator of equal importance to her skills as a litigator when advocating on behalf of her clients.
Sanaz has extensive knowledge in the drafting of and advice on marriage contracts (pre-nuptial), separation agreements, cohabitation agreements, financial statements, court applications and written arguments for litigation matters.
While practicing family law, Sanaz continued with her studies and completed her Masters in 2018 at Osgoode Hall Law School, where she obtained her LL.M., specializing in family law.
Sanaz is fluent in Farsi and is actively involved in the community by working hand in hand with women’s shelters by providing sound legal advice during times of crisis. She is a member of the Iranian Legal Professionals of Ontario, the Canadian Ontario Bar Association, the Family Law Association and the Law Society of Ontario.
